I think the only films that can make me cry are indie films because they are real. They talk about real issues, about real people, about real experiences. Often the reason I like a movie is there’s something nostalgic about it that I can relate to the character. This is probably why I’m starting to prefer indie films over Hollywood movies. The authenticity of the characters is phenomenal. To me, a good movie has a good plot, great characters, and fantastic actors. You can have the greatest actors in the world playing your characters but if the role and the film doesn’t have substance then why bother making a film that tries to talk to people’s experiences. In most of the indie films I’ve encountered, all of these criteria have been met.
